PR and advertising are working considerably different compared to how they are working in traditional media. Through online media, as consumers, we can respond directly and make it a two ways communication. These two communication tools are merging online, for example, on this website we can found a link that functions as PR as well as advertising feature like newsletter. By registering as a member, we will be updated for the latest information, application, etc but also exposed ourselves as an object for advertisements of new products and promotion.

Practitioners should consider 'combination' when designing or executing an online communication strategy. Online communication tools are different from what they used to be (offline), as cited earlier that online communication make it possible for PR and advertising to merge. Stage 3 - tHe nAtuRe oF CmC...

I thought CMC was considerably different from other way of communication. People tend to be themselves and brave enough to show what they were truly feel. On the other hand, CMC could be considered as escapism, where people could be whoever or whatever they wanted without noticed by others. It is one contradictive world out there… no border… no limit… I could be a man if I want to, approaching a girl from the other side of the world, exchanging pictures, giving promises, with no possibilities getting known.

Credit card fraud. Long distance relationship. Emotional trade. Foolish shopping. Data finding. Endless chatting. Being her. Being him. Or just being me…. And so forth…CMC made it all possible.

We can not deny that CMC eliminates all the barrier of different time zones and distance. In addition, for marketers, CMC make it easier to offer this and that by pop up ad, advertisement in our favourite sites, emails, and also websites. How many online offers did you receive today by emails? Ten? Or more?

To conclude, CMC has different nature in communication because it has different characteristic from other way of communicating. We could be truly ourselves or being others by simply typing different messages in our keyboards. Additionally, by being a part of online community, we also made ourselves exposed by commercials contents of the CMC.

Stage 2 – Between me and my computer…

I countered to computer mediated communication better than the face to face or telephone communication. Maybe it was for the reason that I did not have to see or hear and react directly at the same time to my communicant. In addition, I felt more confident in written language, I did not have to see how people responded to what I was communicating. Anxious, that was I felt while I was in face to face communication sometimes. I communicated with people by online chat, emails, and shout box. The content was slightly different from face to face communication seeing as I was frequently using nicknames, pictures, smileys or avatar to personalise myself. People usually did the same things, moreover some of my friends using signatures at the bottom of their emails. My TOP 5 sites are: Google (to find data, images, almost anything) – Amazon.Co.Uk (the best sites to find used books & it’s a lot cheaper sometimes) – Friendster (communicate with my friends, send messages, checking out others) – Ebay.Co.Uk (mmm….have I told u that I was a bit consumptive…?) – The Crims.Com (deep down inside… there’s a dark side of me…. Hahahaha… [devilish laugh]… one good online game though…)

Day 1: - checking my emails at yahoo & hotmail - writing emails for my loved one & some friends - updating my blog(start to enjoy it very much)- checking media2 for updates - browsing [mmm...new wireless speaker, NEXT boots, new fragrance, or new FCUK jeans.... sooo tempting :( ] - looking for data @ mintel - chatting with friends at Yahoo & MSN messenger - looking for data in some Indonesian journals for my 'consumer behaviour' assignment - Day 2: - checking my emails at yahoo & hotmail - updating my blog (agaiiin??? as I said before I start to enjoy it very much... maybe too much) - checking my emails in bournemouth uni - downloading lectures & seminars - downloading updater for my adware - checking my friendster account - NO BROWSING FOR TODAY SHOPAHOLIC!!!
